Embracing The Messy

My new mantra is “I embrace the messy moments”.

Not too long ago, I had a meltdown from overdoing.

After many years of being a workaholic and chronically busy in the name of productivity, it has taken a constant practice to do things differently. And as much as I have cultivated the “new me”, the “old me” sneaks back in there! Both versions of me are accepted. It has been the constant practice of balance!

The “old me” gets things DONE! I'm responsible, hard-working, and can be a strict taskmaster. The new me is the person who practices daily to say, “that can wait”, or tear my to-do list in half, or say, “I’m going to step back from that situation that’s really making me feel bad right now”. It has taken me a long time to realize I am enough as I am, and not because of what I accomplished that day. I don’t have to finish my list in order to deserve rest. I can rest anytime.

In the past, pushing beyond my limits is what led me to burnout, so this is something I have to monitor, forever. My body quickly sends me warning signals if I’m overdoing. I’ll get a headache. I'm less tolerant. I'll get overly emotional, or I’ll feel my energy wane. The old me used to ignore all of these signals, and pay for it later. Now, I’m so grateful for these warning signs because that shows that the taskmaster is taking over, and I can always choose to take care of myself.

Stepping away, to pause, to remove, and to choose the best option, is just as important as the habits I add into my life.

When we think of habit change, we think about what to add a lot of the time. Knowing what isn’t serving me and taking action to remove it has been one of the biggest lessons I’ve learned and continue to practice since my health journey started.

The biggest lessons show up when life gets messy.  Therefore,

I embrace the messy moments.

This doesn’t make me flawed when I find moments of being stuck. These are valuable lessons that turn into my superpowers! I want you to know you also have superpowers. Your rich, life-experience has made you the amazing person you are today, and you learn so much from the messy bits!

A non-judgmental space; an environment that is conducive to supporting anyone to making positive changes for health and wellness or anything else is so essential. What matters is what YOU want for yourself. You are the expert on you! And working with a compassionate and positive coach: someone who's been there in the messy moments and understands it from a deep and personal level, can make a big difference!
